Our speaker today on November 2nd was Mr. John Richardson of the Mobile County Public Health Department. He started off by informing us that 20 billion dollars had been given to the department of public health for Alabama, specifically opioid overdose. He then let us in on some of his personal life to really paint the picture of the "disease of addiction" and is actually in recovery of the disease. After that he spoke about the dangers of fentanyl saying its synthetic, stronger than morphine by 100 times, and illicit fentanyl is street fentanyl. Fentanyl in its powdered form can fall through the pores of the skin and that is how it kills by touch. The craziest thing learns from these fentanyl chronicles the program is on is that one kilogram of fentanyl can kill 500,000 people Narcan can work on fentanyl and many other overdoses and Birmingham gives out two doses of it for taking a quiz, but Xylazine the non-opioid veterinary tranquillizer cannot be reversed by Narcan and is a crystalline white substance that coats many drugs making it so Narcan can't work. That part is one of the craziest to me because like Mr. Richardson brought up, if the point is to get people addicted and keep on buying why use such lethal drugs?
