It was a delight to have the Edmondson family come to teach us about suturing. Suturing is essentially stitching with a suture, which consists of the fishing hook-shaped needle with a string attached, needle holders, and also forceps work. After watching Mr. Edmondson do a couple of stitches, I immediately set off on my adventure to do so as well and was humbled quite quickly. After many failed attempts at tying the knot properly, I was then shown by Mr. Edmondson how to do it. While this was going on out of the corner of my eye I see Nurse Juilies small child doing amazing sutures. Now this should be expected because she has a trauma physician and a nurse as her parents, but this lit the light of competition underneath me after which while I moved slowly, I moved with passion. I performed a perfect line of sutures by remembering to fold the knot towards me then I was dead on. The moral of the story is no matter what you do there’s probably a five year old that can do it better, and make sure your suture needle strings aren’t too old so they break inside of your patient.
